What Are Your Barriers to Delegation?

Almost all business owners struggle with delegation and have perceptual barriers to releasing work to others.

This post will identify ​possible barriers to delegation that you may recognize in yourself, and it may help you discover other barriers.

Possible barriers to delegation that you may recognize in yourself​

Please take a few moments to review the list below, and note any other barriers that come up for you as you move through the list. 

​Note all barriers that resonate with you:

  • Do you feel like there isn’t enough work to delegate tasks right now?
  • Do you feel like you don’t have enough time to figure out what to delegate right now?
  • Do you feel like you’d have to watch your team like a hawk if you delegated work?
  • Do you wonder if you’d spend more time explaining the task than you would to just do it yourself?
  • If you delegate a high-visibility task or a task related to a pet project, are you afraid you won’t get credit for it?
  • Are you afraid you’ll need to give away tasks you enjoy?
  • Do you believe you’re the only person who can do the work?
  • Or are you certain no else can do the work as well as you can?
  • Do you dread the thought of having to redo someone else’s work?
  • Are you afraid delegation will push you out of your own company?
  • Do you have concerns that the team members you delegate to will try to take over?
  • Are you worried that relinquishing control of one area of your business means you’ll lose control of the rest?
