Another roles of the Online Business Manager in your business is in the tracking of metrics.  Maybe you have heard of key performance indicators (KPIs) – maybe not.  Many folks have shared with me that they don’t what the metrics in their business are and certainly have not been tracking them.  Very often they are confused with the collection of this critical information in their business.

Basically, metrics is measuring what matters in your business, such as:

• how many people subscribed to your ezine this week compared to last week or last month
• how many widgets did you sell
• how many widgets compared to last month or last year did you sell
• how many people visited your website this day, month, year
• when they visit your website how long do they stay on, what pages matter the most to them
• how many people purchased something when they visited your website – conversion
• how many products did you sell during a major launch
• what technical devices such as blackberry’s, ipod, ipad are they using to pull up your site

The above are just a few of the metrics that can be collected and analyzed.  These metrics form trends and patterns that should be looked at for the health of your business.  They tell you if a promotion is working or not.
